Meditation

Meditation, relaxation techniques, and just time off from hectic daily activities is very beneficial for everyone.  Meditation can increase clarity of thought, free you from excessive mental tensions, improve mental and physical health and finally, lead to fulfilling spiritual awareness.  There are many types of meditations.  Find a practice that fits your nature and if possible look for a capable teacher.  If you are not interested in meditation there are many relaxation techniques available in books and video.

Here is an easy relaxation technique you can do at work, in the subway or even in your car.  While sitting (or lying down if you prefer), keep your back straight but relaxed.

Inhale through your nose.
Breathe as deeply as you can, bringing your breath down to your stomach, expanding it. At first you might find this difficult, especially if you are used to breathing through your mouth.

Contracting your abdomen, exhale through your nose.  Your exhalation should be longer than the inhalation.  As you exhale, release your worries and the tension in your muscles.
Breathe slowly and evenly.

You can do this for just a few minutes or up to half an hour.  Do this a few times a week or — better yet — daily.  After one week you will surely notice a positive difference in your state of mind.

It is not easy to walk a different path from most people.  It is far easier to deal with stress by taking medications, drugs or alcohol.  Meditation is a simple method of releasing the great tension, fear and stress that is part of modern daily life. After time, by meditating one can come to look at life, oneself and the world from an objective, positive view.
